My husband and I have a friend who is also a colleague of ours. He was best man at our wedding, and my husband talks to him on an almost daily basis about work matters and life in general.

This friend is going through a nasty divorce. His estranged wife is using everything she can to get as much money out of him as she can. If the court agrees, he could lose his car, his house, and his job. If he loses his job he cannot make the payments and could go to jail.

Today my husband received a very disturbing email from him. Basically he asked my husband if he wanted to be a pallbearer at his funeral. He thinks he'll be dead in about a month. My husband hasn't been able to get ahold of him to find out if he is serious or not.

We live in another state and it's an eight-hour drive to reach him. Even if we could we cannot afford to let him live here as we're already struggling financially. We're at a loss as to what we can say to him or do for him once my husband can contact him.

We're in a holding pattern, and right now it's a very uncomfortable place to be.
