[quote=unhappyguy;2199348]hey, objtrbit - I started with a new therapist 8 months ago. I walked into my first session with a list of issues written down and read them off. Then, I asked bluntly, "can you help me?" You might consider doing the same.
lol I was day dreaming about that! I also thought of wearing a hoodie and on the intake report- marking of to the side, or inbetween the gender question haha...let insurance figure that one out lolz.
Also, do not be afraid to ask a new T what their specialties are and the modalities they employ. Also, consider stating what you want to achieve in therapy. If she waivers, don't be shy. Ask if she can refer you to someone who is more familiar with your issues. All the best to you!
Man I think I really want this T though-found her on psychology today, she is slightly educated in psychodynamic therapy, but specializes in rogerian and a bit of gestault too, whcih means I might be able to pick up some techniques off of her (cuz I want to be a T.) Now that I've taken the time to think about it too, I think all that fear that she "treats me like a female" is actually a wish-because I'm pretty sure I want to pick a fight lol.
Oh boy lol, you know what? Thanks, I will do that list lol.
Take care,
-obj
