I agree, don't worry about the children. Hopefully, they'll appreciate someone appreciating their mother. If there are any problems, it isn't your problem.

I like Mystry's idea of a poem, flowers and dinner out. Or chocolates instead of flowers. Gourmet chocolates are especially nice, but more expensive.
