Oh i know the feeling too! I'll be in the middle of doing something and my mind will be racing and i'll go to do something else and completely forget what i had to do in the first place! Its actually really nice when the pendulum stops swinging for a bit and i act "normal." Unfortunately, its all part of the cycle
Oh and i love the coloring idea! I used to do that at school, but now i usually draw when i'm really frustrated or just work out and push myself.
Just remember you aren't alone and eventually things will calm down
