Meds are tricky. It can take years to get you to the place where you are feeling better and even then after awhile those meds stop working for you. And, when you first start taking meds, in can be a month to a month and a half till the full affect is noticed.
Of course, talk to your doc about your concerns and why you have them.

Abilify....I have involuntary muscle movements in my jaw and it's now permanent. I was on if for years though before it got so bad that a therapist noticed. It did help though.
Depakote...made a huge difference in my anger spurts but I gained 30lbs in the first month and my hair fell out horribly. Others I spoke to had the same reactions to it.
Lamictal...on now for almost 2 years. Had a little wait gain in the beginning and then settled down. Works great...for me.

bb2023 is right though, meds work differently for different people. As you here people explain their experiences with them, they are things to look for but not necessarily going to happen to you.

Do you have BPD?
