At the close of our session this week, T said he wanted me to come next week too and said the day and time. Then he bothered to ask if that was OK. Somehow, this little interaction made me feel really good.

For a while I was seeing T every 3-4 weeks for 90 minute sessions but a couple of months ago I decided I wanted to go back to shorter, more frequent sessions, so I've been seeing T every 2 weeks the last few times. Now I am going to see him 2 weeks in a row at his direction (wallet, be still). Towards the end of our session, a new problem finally came to the fore (something I've been struggling with for a few months), and T just didn't want to leave it. He said he wished I still had the longer sessions. I felt he really wanted to help me, and he thought he could. (That confidence he projects is so great, just makes me want to trust that yes, he can help!) So he was super motivated. It reminded me of really early on when I saw him weekly with my big problems and he said he wanted to use certain techniques with me because he felt they would be quick and he didn't want to see me (or other clients) suffer so long by using slower methods. He wants to give clients quick relief. That felt good too, in the same way. This week, I just felt he feels like he can help me with this!

It was such a little thing, but it just felt good and reminded me of our early days. I liked how he just said he wanted me to come in next week and really didn't ask at first.

Also, we tried to do a little ego state therapy at the end of the session, something I had really liked when we did it before. Total failure this time--I look forward to more time to do this in a helpful way or whatever he has in mind... I have that "jazzed" feeling about therapy for the first time in a while. I feel he has a direction and he can't wait to dig in, and that makes me feel enthusiastic too, and curious and hopeful.
