As far as your weight is concerned - Remeron's #1 side effect (besides sedation) is weight gain/appetite increase. So it can be helpful if you are underweight. If the side effects you're experiencing are too much, you may want to contact your doctor and ask to scale back to 7.5mg for a while. I know the dreaming can be a pain - but it you stick with the med the dreaming will decrease over time. Plus, at higher dosages - 45mg-60mg it begins to really enhance norepinephrine which can be very stimulating/activating. I know some people who, once they reached higher dosages, began to get a stimulant effect from Remeron and had to start taking it in the morning instead of at night.
