My boss is a freaking JERK.
And a bit delusional.
He has in his mind that the whole time I've been working there I've been trying to hand my shifts off to other people, even though that's only been happening for about a month because I've been ill.
He pretty much suggested that because I've been ill for about a month that I'm faking it.
He tells me that I need to grow up, and get my own place... which may be true, but may not necessarily be feasible. And definitely wouldn't be possible with what he pays me.
I cry when he's being a jerk to me, and that also means that I need to "grow up."
He doesn't even have the nerve to fire me, so he schedules me for 8 hours in a full pay period.
He makes me sign out for a break if I need one, but smokers get a 5 minute paid break every 2 hours. Discrimination much? Having me sign out for 15 minutes saves him about a $1.75 (dear me, such money. Unfortunately there are no break laws here, so it's perfectly legal for him to do that).
He never schedules people for enough hours so that they can get the company's insurance.
He acts like I've never worked, that all I've done the whole time I've been there is sit behind the cash register.
He doesn't follow through on telling on scheduling me for two days in a row off. Well, I guess he does now since he scheduled me to work one day.
Yes, I'm searching for a new job.
He flat out tells me that he wouldn't have hired me if it hadn't been for the recommendation of someone I didn't even know that was hired after me (the delusional part enters in here...)
And tells me I'm the worst employee he's ever had.
I'm not sure how this is supposed to motivate me in any form... or if he's just trying to push me out the door without firing me. Believe me, I'm working on going out that door as soon as I can.
..... ok, I feel better now.
Had to get that out.

I wish I had a better understanding of the psychology of work situations, but I will offer what I have observed and maybe some others will add their thoughts and all of it will help you going forward through your work-life. There are some people in managerial (supervisory) positions who will say and do all sorts of things that are not right, blatantly unfair, potentially actionable, and most likely to get them a punch in the snoot someday.
But because there is no one to stop them,
they will continue to say and do these things. A boss telling you to "grow up" and "get your own place" is being entirely too personal. If you are a minor, you should be telling your parents what is going on. What happens if you stand up to this person? Does he talk to you in private or in front of other people? If you don't know whatever protection you have as a worker where you live, please find out as soon as possible. I hope you find a good job soon.
