It is a mistaken belief that you can only be depressed if your life is filled with stressors. If the depression is chemical in nature, then it can happen to anyone...even those who, to others, seem like they shouldn't be depressed.
There is no "right" to be depressed, we do not earn this label. It is what it is. If you are depressed, please don't feel guilty about it. Accept it as reality, and move forward. What can help? If you are on medication, perhaps a change in dosage could help. If not, maybe starting medication would help. Some people need to stay on medication for the rest of their lives, and there's nothing wrong with that. I am one of those people, and I accept this.
Therapy can also be very beneficial, if you are not already seeing a therapist. They are professionals, and shouldn't be annoyed at you for feeling depressed. As I said previously, it is not your fault.
