I have a friend who went thru ECT and yes she lost her memories. we planned a special trip, doing all the things we used to do on our vacations to remind her of the things that she had forgotten. it was a fun time. the memories were slow coming back to her. like there was a time we went on an advanced first aid camp out in the mountains and her car kept dying unless she kept it above a cerain speed. i had a siren whistle and i blew it as she drove the car fast down thru the mountain road. so on our trip, i searched forever but i finally found the darn whistles, and my other friend and i started blowing them as we drove fast down a winding mountain road. we tried to make her come up with the memory of what we were doing. after many clues she was eventually able to fill in the blanks and come up with some stories of the campout. the thing is, my friend had been severly depressed, even psychotic for years and no med worked. some time after the ECT, everything just sorta clicked in place for her. she was able to get off all medication. she got a degree and went from working at best buy to being some successful person at a university giving all kinds of presentations. shes like the head of some department and travels giving lectures and trainings and is now in the process of becoming a minister.

i would advise you, if you are going to go thru with it, to write all the happy stuff down, or have others to remind you of it, so you have those things waiting for you when its done. good luck to you what ever your choice is.........
Thanks for this!
