I'm a member of the majority here: going out to eat alone is great fun and very enjoyable. Particularly in empty restaurants. Take a book or a notebook. Read or think and jot things down. Eat and drink to your own heart's content. No one to entertain. No one to please. No other person's constraints or requirements to pay attention to. No. I've just reviewed my entire life's eating experiences with others in restaurants. Eating alone is far superior to eating with anyone else in a restaurant environment. There are holiday eating experiences, of course, that just wouldn't be holiday eating experiences if they didn't involve lots of others. Those are different. But if and when you're going out and eating a for-pay meal in a restaurant, you can't beat solitude. Huh-uh.
