Wow - talk about a Dr. with no bedside manner - that's no way to put it.
But I am going to make a bit of a counter argument, if he really believes you should be in a hospital because your symptoms are getting worse, it's something to consider. I've been in the hospital twice for mental illness - once I went in for an indefinite period and wound up being discharged after 8 weeks. Both stays really helped me get stable, and get my meds sorted out. There was some group therapy every day except weekends and I got to see my pdoc, almost every day. Both times probably saved my life.
If you really are thinking about killing yourself, then a hospital is probably a good place to be.
