My friends are all the type who say that if they can ever... But I've learned that specific invitations work best with all of them.

IDK. Works for us, anyway.
My trouble is that I can be very direct and very specific in asking for what I need. "I need X. Would you please X? Thank you." I can ask exactly that way, and keep asking, until I'm blue in the face. Yet X doesn't happen until I get mad and YELL for X to be done. And then I'm treated like a world-class b--- because I lost my temper, and why didn't I just ask nicely?

When my children were teenagers, I was advised that this was because they knew they didn't really have to move until Mom started yelling. But they aren't teenagers anymore, and it isn't just them.
