Cold compacts/cloths or ice packs seem to help me the most if there are no meds available or even in addition to meds sometimes. There are soft gel packs at pharmacies that you can get and they will mold to your head. This only helps at home, but cold compresses with a cloth or paper towels with ice can be helpful if out somewhere. Instead, I would even carry around a small ziploc bag with me in case I needed to hold ice for an ice pack. Also, caffeine is helpful, but I find sugar makes it worse so I try to use unsweetened tea/coffee to get the most caffeine.

I have prescription migraine meds now but the neurologist said for those who don't want those or if don't have access, he recommended Extra Strength Excedrin and having it with you at all times in case there is an episode. Especially if can take it when you initially feel it coming on, you might be able to keep if from getting to full force. If full force, still take it to lessen it. Can carry around a small container or get a pillbox to keep it in so you have it with you. Perhaps it might help.

I started to journal what was happening before the migraines would come on: foods that ate, sights, sounds, or events such as stress, to see if there were common things that would trigger them. It helped me to figure out some things I could do to prepare ahead of time (such as with breathing and relaxation), wearing sunglasses to avoid the glare off things, or things to avoid such as foods.

I'm wish I had more suggestions but nothing much else has helped with mine. It is why I have gone to prescription meds. I'm sorry you are suffering with these and I wish you the best in finding what works best for you. Good luck!
