it appears to be one of many 12 steps groups that has stemmed from the AA concept. i'm assuming from researching DA the meetings are similar to AA but the focus is on debt, not alcohol.
as for your parents i don't know your age but can't see why you couldn't tell them you're stepping out for awhile.
