If it is recent, the puking, I'd go with the meds. Remembering the image and worrying about what your childhood may have been like sounds too diffuse (not the image, the worry) to cause the extreme of anxiety, the puking? Usually when we discover something unpleasant and scary like that, it actually helps focus the anxiety some because at least now we have a "reason" to be afraid. You can now go to a therapist and discuss this incident and your childhood and what you remember of your childhood and going to church, etc. Before that, you had "nothing"? Nothing is much scarier than finding something, to me at least.
