Where I'm from there are three(?) main types of therapy, and a T will usually only specialise in one of the types. You then pick a T who uses the kind of therapy that will be most helpful for your needs. (This "division" is also important because insurance will only pay for a certain number of sessions, but if you switch the type of therapy you get the same amount of paid sessions all over again.)
