During my second or third session with T, she was taking me through progressive relaxation. She told me to close my eyes and she was going to watch me to make sure I wasn't re-tensing areas we'd already relaxed. It was very, very difficult for me. I hate being watched like that. I did it though because I knew it would help me learn the technique. I also knew if I did it successfully we wouldn't have to keep working on it and I could open my eyes again.
Otherwise I like to keep my eyes open. Eye contact with T is actually helpful for me. But when I get frustrated I stare out the window or at the outlet in the wall. But always eyes open.
