Has anyone ever had their hormone levels tested to see if it was they were a cause for their anxiety/depression or an added issue?

Someone recently told me that they had their estrogen, testosterone, and pregesterone levels tested and their doctor said that her testosterone and progesterone levels were in the low range. She attributed her low levels to her anxiety, lack of energy, and reduced emotional feelings.

She was given two creams to increase both hormones and is waiting to see how it works. She did all of this through a naturopathic specialist.

I wonder if a regular doctor or a psychiatrist could order the same types of tests... Insurance doesn't normally cover 'experimental' specialists.

Has anyone else heard of this or undergone the hormone testing?
