Hi Paige008,

I get especially depressed around the time of my period. In the past, I have thought about going this route too. I asked my doctor and she didn't recommend the estrogen creams sold in health food stores since they may do nothing but they could also have adverse effects. She mentioned that for PMDD (severe depression around one's period) a low dose of antidepressants is sometimes used. Sometimes hormones are used too, but they come in pill form, like a low dose contraceptive. In the end, I realized although my depression was worse during certain times of the month - it never really went away completely. So I decided to go the AD route. Since then, my depression during PMS has gotten better. But I'm sure your insurance would cover an appointment w/ your doc or OB/GYN to ask him or her about this if you are feeling especially bad around your period... Not sure if this helps? Good luck...
