If you are not getting enough sleep and missing out on REM-dreaming, which is needed for the brain to put all the files in the right compartments, the brain can sometimes do this when you are semi-awake.
This 'movie' - making can also occur during recovery from trauma and could be a flash-back.(ie the brain trying to process the trauma).
I don't know if you have PTSD?
It is a bit scary, but if you know what is happening it helps.
Try to get some proper rest and take good care of yourself. And use your best coping strats.
