I like relaxing music, nature sounds or lullabies to sleep by. It helps my mind have something to focus on rather than it's internal stuff.
I also find that allowing my mind to wonder for a while during the day and writing about my feelings before bed helps to reduce the things that are on my mind.
My T had also suggested making yourself a relaxation tape which I haven't done yet. I have the idea of what I want to do. I have a relaxing place in my mind that I like to visit. Do you have a relaxing place that you visualize sometimes? If you make a tape of yourself talking yourself through a relaxation technique with your place, it might give your mind something to focus on other than your movie.
If you are anything like me, you may find that you wake up repeatedly and go through this annoying problem of trying to make your brain shut up in order to get to back sleep.
As for what it is, I don't know. Since I cry a lot also and follow the symptoms of depression, my counsellor is wanting to ask some further questions and re-think the previous Dx. I have read that insomnia tends to be an emotional problem or stress problem.
Do you talk to anyone about this? Having someone to help you deal with whatever may be bothering your mind may help too.
