This started with Mitt Romney saying "y'all" while on the campaign trail. Hey Mitt! Saying "y'all" in a yankee accent doesn't cut it! You don't sound like one of us. You sound like a moron trying to mimic us. Please people don't start a polotical debate about this. It's got nothing to do with his politics. It's got to do with insulting us.

This morning I heard someone on TV talking with a fake cornpone Southern accent. Burned my backside. If you're going to speak Southern learn to speak it the way we do. And just in case you don't know there's about eleven zillion different Southern accents! Folks from Mississippi don't sound the same as folks from Georgia who don't sound like the folks from Kentucky who don't sound like ... well you get the point.

Enough already!
Being from the great state of North Carolina, and living in the triangle area, I get to hear a lot of "yankee" transplants try to fit in, so for those of you who migrate from the North to our state here a few ground rules.

1. Do not use the word "Y'all, NEVER say this, no matter how hard you try to sound southern using it, you will never come across as anything other than a poseur, it would be like one us of going to NY and trying to say "youze guys"

2. When someone asks what kind of Barbeque you prefer, do not mention anything involving beef or chicken, BBQ is pork, with vinegar, slow cooked over an open pit, any mention of other meats is blasphemy.

3. There is no singular to "Grits" there is no such thing as a Grit

4. If you are an aspiring wife to a Southern husband, and you want to impress him with biscuits, DO NOT BUY THOSE TUBE THINGS AT THE SUPERMARKET, they are not fit to eat. Get some flower, salt, a pan some molassis, country ham, butter and lard. A bit of sweat equity is required but if done right your southern hubby will treat you like the queen.

5. Social Networking in the South, is called "Gossip"

6. If asked about your favorite college basketball and football teams, only one of four answers will be accepted, Carolina, Duke, Wake or NC State.

8.Merging on the interstate, is regarded as a personal challenge, so do not be offended by the aggressive driving here, after all NC is the birthplace of Nascar.

9. Speaking of Nascar, failure to pick a driver to cheer for during the season, could make you a social outcast.

Those are just a few rules to know for successful migration.
Thanks for this!
