Its just the way therapists work with DID's. They dont work specifically with Momory pieces (Alters). they have learned that focusing the work only on the memories does no good when the person doesn't have or isn't taught the coping skills to handle the recalling of memories. So when memory pieces pop up, come out and so on therapists have to by their mental health training and USA mental health laws and ethics focus not totally on the piece of memory (Alter) that is coming through but to work with the person as a whole to teach them to how to remain aware and fully experience the memorys for their self instead of the therapist telling the person after they are aware - this is what I found out while you were gone.

Years ago there were alot of perpetrators that were sent to prison and then had to be let free because the therapist had not let the client experience and tell them fully that memory, instead the therapist told the person "this, this and this happened to you and now even though you don't remember it you told me about it or rather your alter told me about it"

. So the perpetrators were let free because of false memory syndrom - not a real memory but one that could possibly have been created by the therapist or to please the therapist.

So now there are laws and ethics put in place to prevent false memories from being created by the therapist or the client to please the therapist because the therapist likes the working with alters and whatever other reasons there are for people to create or pretend that they have been abused or are DID.

Now the therapy profession has no choice they have to work with the person who has been diagnosed with DID as alters are memories and the work with that person has to be working on the co conscious way - that is the person has to experience the memory therself.

This way those that are really DID get the correct treatment needed to heal from DID and those that are not DID are not rewarded for pretending they are DID. Those that are DID work the program those that are not either give up pretending with that therapist because they gain no enjoyment and or attention by pretending or they quit therapy with that therapist and find another one to see if that new therapist will give thier DID routine attention that they want.

In the therapy profession the bottom line is that Alters are just the person acting out a memory that has been separated and stored in their unconscious level of thinking and cannot act or do anything that is not contained in that piece of memory. So when the therapist has the info they need to help the person diagnosed with DID they sometimes try to get the person diagnosed with DID to focus back on the here and now instead of the memory they are experiencing or is rerunning. DID is not a fun disorder of playing games and so on with the therapist so therapists don't treat it as fun by giving the "alters" alot of attention. Just the way it is.

Thats what therapy work for DID is - working with the diagnosed person as a whole person teaching them coping skills of staying grounded, locating triggers, remembering the memorys and not focusing on the separated memories (alters) as separate people.

Reading my blog will tell you what to expect from therapy for DID. Take care
