There are a lot of reasons for UTI's, but in my case, I'd gone to two different specialists (twice having the painful procedure where they look inside the bladder) and went through many, many rounds of antibiotics - which in a number of cases, stopped working while I was using them. That was 4 or 5 years ago now, but I did go through many months of nearly continuous UTI's until those two friends (again, one a nurse) said that sugar might be the problem. Of course it isn't in many cases, but they both said that bacteria can feed on the sugar. It bothers me that it isn't something mentioned as possible, because I could have saved myself months of pain. And I lost weight too, so that was even a bigger bonus. If I feel that a UTI could be in the offing now, I drink tons of water and slow down on sugar. I have not had a recurrence.
