I look at local government sites, (example from my county:

http://www.harford.edu/hr/jobs.asp?FA=Employee) etc. Often one can get "in" and then move around, get lower cost/free education, other benefits.
Look at your skills too, see if there is a subset that might get you one, even if it is "lesser". My husband (an electrical engineer) and I use to laugh because there seem to be a lot of retired mechanical engineers who are salesmen in the TV department of Best Buy, that sort of thing (they work on commission so can make more than just a "salary"). If you have accounting skills, getting bookkeeping jobs or "cover" jobs during tax season (the accountants are busy just doing taxes so might like a part-time person doing "regular" stuff?) or working as a cashier, etc.
