Referrals are helpful. If a personal reference is not available, you can also ask your physician/office for a recommendation. If you are looking for a particular type a therapy (psycho, CBT, DBT, etc.) that can help pre-screen therapist and psychologists for that particular type of therapy; they cannot prescribe medications. If you are in need of medication therapy, then look for a psychiatrist and again, the same kind of referral from a trusted source can be helpful. You may like whom you've been referred to, but if not, do not hesitate to interview others until you find someone you are comfortable with, so important.
