I usually scan the first two pages, and see what catches my interest. I'll hover over the subject of a thread and read the first line of the post, and then decide if I a) have time to read it and b) want to read it.

Often, my mood dictates what I'll read. Sometimes I'm easily triggered or easily frustrated and I'll stay away from threads that might do that to me.
