The best way to make friends is to pursue an interest and meet people there who share it. I go to a Block-of-the-Month club at a quilt shop. A bunch of ladies who love quilting are there for the next 30 minutes or so and we strike up conversations. Haven't made an outside friend yet but we do recognize each other now.
