Hankster, I didn't actually "hate" the Klonopin, it just made me so drowsy and it DID effect my short term memory and I mostly took it at night to sleep without waking up in flashbacks etc. I was also on a very low dose. I only took it during the days when I was really bad as it often just made me sleepy. I had just read that it effects the ability of the brain to produce serotonan, which I would think could encourage depression. I was actually on it for four years and I weaned myself off of it because I was tired of being/feeling tired. I am on nothing now.
I have never tried topamax so I can't say how it is. If I can go without taking anything I would rather do that. It can be a challenge some days though. I do not have epilepsy, just anxiety attacks with the PTSD.
People react differently to medications so I am just going by my own experience.
Unhappyguy,
I do think you should ask your pdoc if the medication you are on effects the serotonin levels at all, be direct. No one told me things unless I asked. So have a list of questions ready.
