Unger and Stemkowski! I had those guys on hockey cards as a young feller. That story flashed an image in my head I haven't remembered in years! I know exactly what this card looks like. Unger was a St. Louis Blue by then. Jeez I can see it now! Funny stuff Hankster! I like looking at my old minor hockey pics when i visit my sis. She's the custodian of all our old family pics. no movies tho. That would be fascinating! God How many kids have grown up being their favorite player on the road or in like peewee and stuff? Did kids do that back in the 30s 40s and earlier? I'll bet they did. Did you ever see the animated French Canadian short about the kid who got a leafs sweater instead of a Canadiens one. He wanted to be Richard. Used to play on TV during commercials a lot. A Canadian vignettes were these little shorts played at odd times during commercial time. it's on Youtube somewhere. I saw it a couple of yrs ago. i think it's called 'The Sweater"
I had the Cherry movie on last night from the CBC archives online. @ minutes in a friend stopped by for a while and I paused it. I'll going watch it as soon as I have time. Will def. be looking for that Ken Burns thing. Will google it later. He's a good doc. guy. Arghhh...missed the Richard one too but caught bits. I used to...and still do...have problems planning and sitting through events like long shows. Even when i know i'll enjoy it. I'll get better. I miss alot.
One I missed too was the one about the Super Series 1972. Heard it was good. I remember seeing those, and the final game in the school gym on a tv. Crazy event back then. Cold war foolishness etc. I was only 11 or so but the fever nationwide was palpable. Even to us youngsters. We [Team Canada]were a dirty bunch of ruffians huh? I think we were humbled too tho. Our hockey training systems sure changed after that. We knew we were lucky!
