tigergirl, you are not supposed to do EMDR on yourself. The author is clear about that. You can write down your triggers, the negative cognitions about yourself, and use floatback techniques to jog your memory, but you don't do the bilateral stimulation. She keeps making it clear that if anything comes up that's difficult, you should seek out a T.
When she talks about a technique called "the butterfly hug", she is careful to say that you do it slowly, not like EMDR is done. It's something in conjunction with a "safe place".
EMDR definitely needs to be done with a T!
