It's totally different in college than it was in high school. In high school, things are "closer." The school normally isn't as large, and most of the time the kids all know each other. In college, everyone comes from all different places, and no one has a clue who anyone else is. It can be overwhelming -- and if you're just the least bit shy, it can be very difficult to make new friends.

I'm sure you must have a "roomie." Perhaps you can start hanging with them a bit? Maybe meet some of their friends? If that's not possible, start talking to others in some of your classes -- just small talk about the professor, or the class, etc. Or if you're in the library maybe you could start a conversation there. Ask someone to have some coffee or a soda, or something. It's worth a try. I know that being alone is no fun. It just takes some effort and some guts.

Best of luck and God bless. Keep us posted, will ya? Hugs, Lee
