Yeah, they will say that. It's how they're trained to approach the problem. I don't think it's true, because I got off meds in spite of what they said. I've known other people to do the same.

Somewhere around here there is a thread where people talk about the 'rule of thirds' with schizophrenia, where 1/3 of sufferers spontaneously recover for no reason, 1/3 make substantial improvements, and 1/3 are fairly ill their whole lives. So in theory, 1/3 to 2/3 of people should be able to spend substantial time off meds, or on extremely low doses.
