I quit in 1983. I started by buying cigarettes with lower and lower nicotine until I was on the cigarette with the lowest possible. Then I started putting my cigarettes in a baggie. First week, 19 cigarettes each day, then 18, 17,16.... down to 1 a day for two weeks and then I quit completely. I had about 3 bad days and then it started getting better. I have not smoked since.
