Ive known about this reconstuction surgery for years. It was also a topic on the show - Strong Medicine - on lifetime. I have professionals in the family and when I heard about it it was because in certain religions to marry without being a virgin is still a sin so when women fall in love and find out that their loved one is of that religion and so because they love their fiance they are willing to under go recontructive surgury so that they will at least give the physical appearance of being a virgin.

This reconstruction surgery is also used at times when survivors who were raped as children never knew what it was like to be able to make the choice to physically loose their virginity. I have a few friends that have done this and it helped them so much to be able to move beyond the rape into knowing they now have control and can make that choice for themselves.

I see it as nothing different then someone having a tummy tuck, liposuction, a face lift, nose job and so on. if it makes the person feel better about themselves its not up to me to condemn how they do it as long as they are not hurting another human being in the process. basically its their "box" not mine so I don't care.
