Sorry to be contentious, but this has been an officially recognized psychological diagnosis since at least 1994 when the DSM-IV came out, so it is hardly new.

Now, this doesn't address the issue of whether or not people abuse the diagnoses for one reason or the other; but just because some do abuse them and we don't like it when they do doesn't make the diagnosis any less real. We have to remember that these diagnoses are labels that are part of a system of standard terminology that allow medical professionals to communicate accurately. In other words, when someone is told they have "Intermittent Explosive Disorder", that means they have exhibited a certain set of behaviors that have been classified in that way, and that's all it means. Some of these, like depression or bipolar, have been shown to have a biological basis; most, however, have not.

I think that "Intermittent Explosive Disorder" is probably just psychologist for "******hole". But then, I'm just a crazy, unemployed musician!
