Sweetie, you CANNOT help him. You can't make him better. He has to see a doctor for that. He needs a psychiatrist and badly! You don't need to feel guilty because you did NOTHING wrong!! You did the best you could do -- there was nothing else you could have done.
DON'T let his mother pressure you into going back with him. He's a sick person. You need to move on, and get on with your own life. Forget about this guy -- he's not for you! If the mother continues to bother you, tell her you'll call the police if she doesn't leave you alone. And tell HIM the same thing!
