I know what it is like to hate my body but I do not have what you have.
When you feel like self injuring, distract yourself. This has worked for me, so far. If I feel like cutting, I pick up my guitar and start playing, take a walk, read, talk to my friends, and so on.
It seems, though, that you and your husband have a good idea of what to do. Take one day at a time. That is really all you can do.
