Here's the thing, I work in healthcare and if you're with a doctor of any kind that diagnosis you just to push pills, you need to find a new doctor.
There is a truth about mental illness that does happen. And with bipolar it does happen, too. Bipolar is not really bipolar. It's more like tripolar. You have depression. You have mania. Then you have a 3rd leg on that table: stable or "normal." You're not depressed. You're not manic. You feel fine. Then one day the freight train comes rolling back into town. There are lots of stories of peopel saying, "I was better so I stopped the meds."
But, you have rights as a patient to make decisions in your own healthcare. If you want to wait and see if it lasts, then tell him. If he fires you for non-compliance, (just because you won't work with you,) then find a different doc.
