If you do not remember this story, it is the greatest revenge story ever told. Imprisoned during his youth in an island fortress by a rival who marries his fiance, the young sailor eventually escapes after 12-to-17 years by hiding in the shroud of deceased prisoner as it is dumped into the sea. He finds that prisoner's treasure devoting the rest of his life to a intricate plot to destroy those who destroyed his life.
