I have progressive lenses and really like them. I was surprised at how easy it was to get used to them, and it is so nice to be able to read without having to switch to reading glasses all the time.
My sister wasn't able to work with the progressive lenses. For her I think it is that she is a choir director and the quick distance switches she has to make from piano music to choir students and back just was too drastic for progressives to work well for her.
Your glasses probably come with a 30 day warranty, so really pay attention to how they work for you and if you discover they don't work, you can always switch over to regular bifocal lenses.
I know it's a blow to have to go to bifocals. I remember that, but once I hit 40, my vision just really went through some major changes. That's pretty normal really. In fact, when I had my last exam, my near vision was much worse but my distance vision had actually improved. Doc said that was pretty typical.
