make sure you tell the doctor about that too when you see him. i don't think it has to necessarily be so different that it effects your writing or other talents. most important is to not feel so bad anymore... but maybe they can find something that is effective for the depression that doesn't have such a strong effect on other things as well.

were you in therapy along with the meds last time? because therapy might help you understand some of the triggers for your depression and help you cope better. That way you wouldn't necessarily be as dependant on the meds. not that you should ever treat them as "optional" but if you were to feel like the therapy was helping you could talk to the doctor about reducing the dose or something.

good luck and like i said make sure you talk to the doc about this stuff. the best miracle medicine in the world isn't an effective treatment if it is something you can't keep taking as prescribed
