Well, it wouldn't do you any good to contact the landlord -- as you said, they could probably rent it out in a heartbeat. And I doubt you could get them to lower the rent.
Can you MAKE it with the increase in rent? With it taking more than HALF your income, it doesn't sound feasible to me. Do you have to pay all utilities besides? If utilities are included (which I doubt) then it might be ok, but these days, that never happens.
Sounds to me like you're going to have to move. I know you don't want to, but gosh -- I sure don't know how you're gonna make it with that much of an increase. Just another case of the rich getting richer.
