Hey Nina,

In my experience, some family doctors are pretty good with mental health issues, and some are not. It really depends on your GP. I agree with aiv713 that you may get a referral to a therapist, and that's not at all a bad thing.

I have found that a lot of doctors can be pretty quick to write a prescription without a diagnosis, while some will avoid prescribing anything and refer you to a psychiatrist for an evaluation. Just remember that if your doctor writes you an Rx for an anti-depressant, it doesn't necessarily mean that you are (clinically) depressed!

I know that you are under a lot of emotional stress right now, and that would make it hard for anyone to enjoy or appreciate things the way they used to. For what it's worth, I think you're doing great.
