The baby will take what it needs from your body. But if you are too thin and really starving, then that is when it is bad. I only gained 3 pounds during my pregnancy because I was not eating.  But, I already was 70 pounds over weight, so I didn't need to gain anything. (The doctor was actually happy with me...) My baby was born just fine and healthy.
But, I do not recommend going it alone the way I did.  I didn't talk to anyone except on forums (like this one.) I would have been better off telling my doctor or something, because now I'm struggling. I am fine with the baby, but I am struggling otherwise.
