I've recently experienced just this with a good friend of mine. We got sober together nearly 5 years ago. I love him dearly. He was my best friend in the program. Since he relapsed on meth 3 months ago, lying to my face has become a regular occurrence. I still love him and my heart breaks for what he is doing to himself as I watch him lose each of the things he gained in recovery. I got a crushingly desperate call from his mother yesterday telling me to let her know if anything "really bad" happened. I love him and I only want the best for him, but I do not respect his choices, and I'd be a dam ned fool to trust him.

So there's something I'm experiencing (unfortunately) right now. It hurts like hell.
