Inky,
I agree about cars.....it seems like mine is always breaking down.....guess that is because mine is a FORD (Found On Road Dead). My last fix was a fuel pump also. It went out completely & my mechanic replaced it. After that, everytime my tank got down below 1/4, when I stepped on the gas. the car would act like it was dying like running out of gas. I took it back after a couple of weeks (to make sure I was really having the problem). He took out the fuel pump & found that it had collapsed when he put it in. When I got it back, it ended up doing the same thing. I tried to determine the exact symptoms & realized that it only happened when the gas was below 1/4 tank & then it also only happened when going around corners. I took it back & he kept it for several days trying to figure out what was going on. He finally found that it wasn't sealing & when the tank was low & going around a corner or whenever the gas would slosh, it would allow air into the fuel causing it to die out. It took several months to get it fixed...& a good mechanic that could debug the problem well.
I hate cars....I have always had problems & they end up dying on the freeway, miles away from home. Where we live is over 1 hour from everything. My mechanic is close to home but the car never dies close to home. I always have to have the car towed for miles to get it fixed.....just another expense to deal with.
I hope you get your car fixed good. Enjoy your hotel stay & get some rest before you stress tomorrow getting your car fixed. Hopefully they can provide you with a loaner rather than having to rent a car......but at least you should have a reliable rental car for while your car is getting fixed.
Good luck,
Debbie
