I think it's different from person to person. Some people want someone to listen to them -- to be someone they can tell their troubles to, and perhaps get some feedback from or just plain listen. Others may want some distraction -- maybe to go somewhere like a movie, or play cards, or go bowling, etc.
Most people I've talked to need someone to listen. Seems no one has had anyone to talk to. Good friends are at a premium these days as people are too busy and don't want to be bothered, I guess. That's too bad, cause REAL friendship is precious.
