My therapist lets me take the lead, and lets me talk about what ever I need to talk about. whether it is something new, something from the last session, or something I have put off from a session in the past.
Sometimes it takes weeks to get back to unfinished business and sometimes I feel like I never want to get back to a particularly difficult subject, but eventually I do go back to it, with gentle nudges from T.
I love the control of taking the lead......Ok I will admit that she has tried to take the lead once or twice at the beginning of a session, if we need to talk about updating my eval, or goals sheet, or something equally important, But, if I have something particularly pressing that I feel can't wait and I really need to talk about. The child within has at times had a kind of a temper tantrum
She usually gives in, but insists we leave enough time for the "business stuff " in the second half of the session, which I agree to, and then let her handle the reins at that point.
